Data Use

1. On-device by design

Playback is built so your recordings never have to leave your Mac. Capture, editing, auto-zoom, silence removal, captions, redaction, and export are all computed locally using Apple frameworks. This page describes what data the app touches and where it goes.

2. What stays on your device

• Raw and edited recordings, including any camera and audio you capture.
• Project files, timelines, and render settings.
• Caption transcripts generated on-device with the Speech framework.
• Redaction masks and the regions you choose to hide.

3. What leaves your device — only when you ask

Some actions inherently involve other services. When they do, you initiate them explicitly:

• Exporting or uploading a file to a destination you choose.
• Sharing a link through a third-party service you connect.
• Sending an optional, recording-free diagnostic report to help us fix a bug.

4. Agent control over MCP

Playback exposes an MCP server so an AI agent can drive a live editing session. The agent runs where you configure it and communicates with the app through that interface. Commands and editing state pass between the agent and the app; your underlying recordings remain on your device unless an action you approve exports them.

You choose which agent to connect and can disconnect it at any time.

5. Permissions we request

• Screen Recording — required by macOS to capture your screen.
• Camera and Microphone — only if you add a camera or record audio.
• Files and Folders — to read and write projects and exports you choose.

6. Your control

You can revoke any system permission in macOS System Settings at any time. Deleting a project removes its files from your device. Because processing is local, deleting your recordings on your Mac deletes them everywhere we're involved.
